5th Vienna Symposium on Surgery of Peripheral Nerves - Present State of Peripheral Nerve Surgery and New Ideas to Improve the Results

Invitation to the 5th Vienna Symposium on Surgery of Peripheral Nerves

It is my pleasure to cordially invite you to the 5th Vienna Symposium on Peripheral Nerves from March 21 to March 23, 2014. Again we want to discuss the present state of peripheral nerve surgery and new ideas to improve the results as it is tradition since 8 years. Any paper, which will bring information in this regard, is welcome.
In 2012 we discussed the problem of passive movements of peripheral nerves, an extremely interesting topic, studied since decades, but not really understood. High resolution ultrasound studies throw a new light on this subject. Some of the old concepts have now a question mark and have to be thoroughly discussed.
It is our impression that treatment of pain syndromes frequently does not consider cases in which a cause located in a peripheral nerve could be treated directly without long delay, avoiding centralization of the pain.
In the treatment of traumatic brachial plexus lesions we want to know more about the final outcome of contralateral C 7 transfer, a technique, which still is disputed.
Finally we should not forget the central nervous system (Cerebral plasticity) and the end organs. Supporting, training and educating muscles will provide decisive improvement if further developed. Improved sensibility will gain more importance in a period of improved prosthesis.
Be sure, our team will do everything to make your presence in Vienna as pleasant and as fruitful as possible

With my warmest regards
Hanno Millesi
