16th ISMST Congress

Kongress in Salzburg/Österreich
27.6.2013, 08:00 - 29.6.2013, 15:00

Congress of the International Society for Medical Shockwave Treatment in 2013

Dear colleagues, dear friends,

It is my honor and privilege to invite you to the 16th ISMST Meeting taking place in Salzburg, Austria from the 27th to 29th of June 2013. One day earlier – the 26th of June – the Instructional Certification Course will also be held at this meeting due to the enormous interest during the past meetings and to continue with the high treatment quality standards among shockwave therapists. I am convinced that the upcoming meeting will provide again a perfect platform for all interested in this exciting and rapid expanding technology.

In the past meetings we learned a lot of the basic mechanism on the cellular and molecular level affected by shockwave treatment which significantly improved our understanding of this technology. This certainly supports us in adapting treatment specifications in the various indications by translating these findings into the clinical environment. However, we are still on the early stages to understand this complex interplay of shockwaves with the biological system which on the other hand makes it also a highly attractive field of research. It is my firm conviction that expert knowledge exchange as well as amicable and excellent cooperation which can be found throughout our society are key elements to succeed in this ambition. As young investigators are the experts of tomorrow we should continue inspiring these young and enthusiastic people to participate in the scientific advancement of this fascinating therapeutic tool. In parallel to the great efforts accomplished by the basic research community the consolidated indications gained further clinical evidence and become in some fields treatment of first choice. Especially this year meeting venue gives us the great opportunity to review and discuss the recent research and clinical progress and the future perspectives as it is exclusively reserved for our congress participants.

I believe that biomedical research needs the industry and vice versa in an effort to provide best patient-centered care. Therefore we should further focus our common interests and are encouraged that our allied industrial sectors recognize the importance of Shockwave Medicine research and participate in supporting scientific meetings. Certainly you will again benefit from participating in the conference, meeting leading scientists in the field, and conversing with presenters and others about your particular interests in ESWT research and development.

We cordially invite you to submit abstracts which are due latest by March 31st 2013and can be submitted via the congress website www.shockwavetherapy.org. It is also a great pleasure to announce for this year meeting an award endowed with €500 for the best paper presented. A scientific commission will evaluate all the presented papers and the award will be handed over on Saturday the 29th of June. We also encourage each of our members to take advantage of renewing your membership and all who are interested in ESWT to apply for ISMST membership to continue the growth of our scientific family.

Why not extend your stay in Salzburg?
UNESCO nominated Salzburg's city centre as part of the world's cultural and natural heritage. Now the city officially ranks among the most beautiful cities in the world, certainly making it an unforgettable experience.

The SalzburgerLand, offers vacationers a vivid variety of wonderful excursion destinations, great wellness hotels, rustic alpine huts, cozy farmhouses, unique natural wonders, famous sights and imposing landscapes. Things become possible here that you can only dream of in other places: mountaineering, hiking, pilgrimages, cycling, mountain biking, swimming, relaxation, canyoning, rafting, horseback riding and sometimes even flying.

On behalf of the International Society for Medical Shockwave Treatment, I look forward to welcoming you all in Salzburg.

With Mozart´s spirit and the “Gemütlichkeit” of Austria we will improve the development of shockwave therapy in all medical fields.

Sincerely yours
